The Minister of Economy, Industry and Investment, Engineer Moeen Hashem Al-Mahakri, confirmed that the government pays special attention to the sponge industry, as part of its efforts to support and localize local industries, indicating that the ministry is working to protect national products from being dumped by imports, in accordance with the directives of the government of change and construction.
This came during his visit, on Sunday, 3/16/2025, to the sponge factories in Sana'a governorate, where he was briefed on the progress of work in various departments, and listened to an explanation from those in charge of the factories about the production stages, which include the manufacture of soft and compressed sponges used in the manufacture of mattresses, mattresses, boards, and other products.
The minister praised the quality of local products, stressing that they are characterized by competitive specifications that are comparable to regional and European products, both in terms of quality and prices. He also stressed the importance of developing this industry and enhancing its competitiveness to meet the needs of the local market, with a focus on innovation and improving the quality of production.
He also stressed the need to adhere to safety and security standards within factories to avoid any accidents that may affect the production process. He stressed the importance of shifting towards renewable energy and taking advantage of the incentives offered by the new investment law to reduce production costs and reduce dependence on imported diesel and mazut.
